Understanding Research Gaps in Women’s Health after Spinal Cord Injury/Disorder

Study Purpose

Historically, the unique experiences of women living with a spinal cord injury/disorder (SCI/D) have been underrepresented in research. Our lab is launching a new study to change that. The goal is to listen to and learn from women with SCI to gain a deeper understanding of their specific health needs, challenges, and sources of resilience. We would also like to hear the perspectives of SCI/D healthcare providers and researchers. By bringing your experiences to light, we aim to inform the development of better, more tailored healthcare resources and support systems.

Who is eligible to participate?

We are looking for individuals who are:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Living with a spinal cord injury or disorder (at least 6 months post-injury)
  • A family member or caregiver to someone with a spinal cord injury or disorder (at least 6 months post-injury)
  • Researchers and healthcare providers (at least 3 years’ experience)
  • Can read and understand English.

What does participation involve?

Your participation would involve a one-time online survey interview where you will be asked to provide your perspective on research gaps in women’s health in spinal cord injury or disorder. The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.

How to Learn More:

Your voice can help shape the future of women's healthcare in the SCI community. If you are interested in sharing your experience or would like more information about the study, please contact our study coordinator, Seah Hushagen, at [email protected].
